SkinPen II: The Next Advancement in Micro-Therapy

SkinPen II allows for controlled collagen induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating thousands of precise micro-injuries in the skin, automatically triggering new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation.

SkinPen II is a medical grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device used in facial rejuvenation treatments designed to reverse years of sun damage, improve skin texture, soften skin wrinkles, and improve the appearance scars, stretch marks, and hyperpigmentation.  It will enhance the overall appearance of aging skin.

SkinPen II   Medical Micro-Needling FAQ

What is medical micro-needling?

Medical micro-needling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that stimulates skin cells to grow to thicken skin layers.  When cells multiply, new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers form, improving the appearance and health of the skin.  SkinPen II was made especially for this purpose.

What conditions can be treated or improved with the SkinPen II?

·Fine lines and wrinkles

·Skin with loose or lax tone

·Skin texture and pore size

·Stretch marks

·Mild to moderate acne scarring

Who is the perfect candidate for medical micro-needling?

Anyone who wants their skin to look brighter, clearer, firmer and more even is a perfect candidate for the SkinPen II treatment series.  Sensitive and ethnic skin types can tolerate this treatment because no heat or chemicals are used.

It is not suitable for patients who:

·Have used Accutane (isotretenoin) within the last three months

·Have had radiation treatment on the skin within the last year

·Have any current skin infections, conditions, active acne or herpes simplex

·Are pregnant or breast feeding

·Have any known history of poor wound healing, keloid or hypertrophic scar formation

·Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on their skin

How does the SkinPen II work?

As the device slides over the skin, tiny needle points penetrate up to 2.5mm to stimulate the body’s self-repair process… creating new elastin and collagen fibers.  In response to the stimulus, the skin plumps and thickens, reducing deficiencies in skin thickness, reducing appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scarring.

What does the treatment involve?

The skin is cleaned and a topical numbing cream is applied for 30 minutes to add to the comfort of the experience.  The SkinPen II device, with a sterile, disposable tip, is used to treat the skin.  A variety of products are used to optimize the results, and you’ll always leave wearing an adequate SPF 30 sunscreen product.

Is the SkinPen II treatment painful?

Topical numbing cream will be applied for 30 minutes before the SkinPen II treatment, making it very comfortable and easy to tolerate.

Can it be used on any skin color, race or ethnicity?

The SkinPen II treatment can be safely used on all skin types and Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI.  There is no risk to darker pigmented skin types for hyperpigmentation.

What will I look like after the treatment?

You can expect a temporary redness of the skin, perhaps mild swelling and it may feel warm…like a minor sunburn.

How many treatments will I need and how often?

As a collagen induction therapy, it is recommended to plan for an initial 3-treatment program, performed every four weeks.  The exact number of treatments will depend on the response to the treatment and the depth and areas of the imperfections.

Are there risks for a post-treatment infection?

Tiny micro-channels are made into the skin using the most advanced micro-needle cartridge on the market today; it is a sterile, single use, and a medical-grade cartridge.  The treatment is performed under clinical conditions.  Post-treatment infections are extremely unlikely.  Please notify Dr. Iverson of any wound healing issues or your risk for a herpes outbreak and appropriate prophylactics may be prescribed.

Is there any downtime?

Most people return to their normal daily activities immediately after their SkinPen II treatment, with some restrictions for sun exposure and perspiration.

Are using skin products or wearing makeup allowed?

A sunscreen is applied at the end of the treatment and it’s best to use only our complimentary Complex Cu3 Intensive Tissue Repair Crème, which will be provided, as directed for the first day and at night for the next few days.  The use of other products and makeup will be individually discussed, but most women can return to regular applications the next day.  Vitamin A and C products and many AHA’s (glycolic acid) may need to be avoided for a few days.

Sounds great…but what can I reasonably expect?

Fact:  The SkinPen II treatment allows for controlled collagen induction using the skin’s self-repair process.  By creating thousands of precise micro-channels into the skin, the production of elastin and collagen are triggered.

Fact:  Increased amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin contribute to a smoother, suppler appearance.  Their lack is one reason for the skin’s folding (wrinkles) and laxness.

Fact:  Most skin damage has occurred over a long period of time, be it from aging, sun damage or skin conditions like acne.  Your results time is dependent on an individual’s initial concerns, but benefits can be noticeable in weeks to months.

We have seen the softening of fine lines and wrinkles, the dramatic improvement in acne scars and hyperpigmentation, the brightening and tightening of the skin, and the minimization of pore size.  Women are thrilled with the correction of those stubborn upper lip and crow’s feet lines.
